Product Testing

Bullet-Resistant Windows & Frames You Can Trust

The first test of any bullet resistant aluminum frame must be its ability to stop ballistic threats. Insulgard’s line of aluminum frames meets the strict standards set forth by the Underwriters Laboratory, a global leader in applied safety science. The UL752 designation is the most widely recognized and respected in the United States, and the gold standard for bullet-resistant windows and frames.

When paired with our BULLETBLOCK glazing products, our bullet-resistant framing can provide an environment that:

  • Protects people and possessions in a store, school, medical clinic, or other indoor or outdoor environment
  • Deters criminals from committing acts of violence and theft
  • Projects a sense of safety that promotes business and positive interactions

Our versatile offerings allow architects, glazing contractors, and other construction professionals to design and build windows, doorways, walls, and other secure structures in a wide range of sizes and dimensions.

Who We Serve

Bullet Resistant Windows for a Wide Range of Applications

Our experts have years of experience in designing, fabricating, and testing bullet-resistant window systems for many applications, including use in:

Strategic placement of bullet resistant windows in government buildings will secure vulnerable locations such as reception areas, gated entrances, operations rooms, and server rooms.

In a high-value target such as a police station, courthouse, or other government building, a higher level of UL 752 protection may be appropriate. Our experts will consult with you to ascertain the security needs of your project so you can select the right materials for the job at hand.

Banks and other financial institutions present unique security challenges in that the windowed areas include customer-facing locations where cash routinely changes hands.

The presence of bullet-resistant windows in entry points, along counters, and in front of vaults and other sensitive areas not only protects people and assets, but also deters criminals from even attempting a robbery.

In a corporate environment, bullet resistant windows can secure funneled access points as well as interior locations such as executive offices and board rooms. The right windows will integrate seamlessly with the rest of the architecture, enhancing security without compromising natural light and a professional atmosphere.

Bullet resistant windows in schools protect students and staff and provide peace of mind to occupants. An effective security strategy may place bullet resistant windows in school entrances and lobbies, safe rooms, and high-traffic zones.

Any store that faces security risks can benefit from UL 752-rated bullet resistant windows, including jewelry stores, pawn shops, and convenience stores.

Among the many uses of bullet resistant windows in a retail environment include:

  • Storefront windows
  • Display cases
  • Cashier and service areas
  • Back offices
  • Rooms where valuables are stored

Careful selection of glazing materials can help a store maintain visual clarity and aesthetics while ensuring the safety of employees and merchandise. Custom frames can blend seamlessly with a store’s branding and architecture.

Frequently ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BULLET RESISTANT Windows

Insulgard offers bullet resistant aluminum framing systems in all levels of Underwriters Laboratory standards, from 1 through 8. Levels 1 – 3 are tested to stop a minimum of three rounds from handguns, while the higher levels can stop penetration from high powered rifles.

Levels 1 through 3 are popular choices for convenience stores, gas stations and medical institutions, while the higher levels of protection may be appropriate for government, police and military buildings.

The level of bullet resistance for your building project depends upon a considered threat assessment. The type of bullet-resistant framing you choose will also be determined by your budget, building dimensions, and aesthetic tastes.

A bullet can penetrate or destabilize window and door frames made of conventional materials. If you want to create a truly secure environment, the frames that hold your bullet-resistant glass in place should also be rated to stop equivalent ballistic threats.

While we cannot promise our aluminum framing systems will work with every design, they are highly adaptable for a broad range of uses. Our bullet-resistant aluminum frames accept a wide range of glazing materials, including bullet-resistant glass and acrylic in a variety of dimensions.

Insulgard’s frames are designed for use in brand new construction projects as well as renovations in which they can be retrofitted into existing structures.
