High-Performance Glazing

Types of Forced Entry Resistant Glazing Materials

Select from a range of high-performance glazing materials engineered for security, impact resistance, and specialized protection needs.

Lexgard® Laminated Polycarbonate

Lexgard® Laminated Polycarbonate is a forced entry resistant glazing product that contains exposed polycarbonate surfaces with abrasion resistant coatings on both sides.

Sure-Gard Glass-Clad Polycarbonate

Our Sure-Gard Glass-Clad Polycarbonate glazing materials are designed to provide enhanced security against forced entry threats by combining layers of symmetrical glass-clad polycarbonate with heat strengthened or chemically strengthened glass on both exposed surfaces.

Fire-Gard Glass-Clad Polycarbonate

Fire-Gard Glass-Clad Polycarbonate combines wire glass, urethane, polycarbonate, and other materials to provide enhanced protection against fires and thermal stress, in addition to forced entry protection.

Who We Serve

A Wide Range of Applications

Our forced entry resistant glass is ideal for use in locations such as:

  • Banks or financial institutions
  • Government buildings
  • Correctional institutions
  • Any facility where protection against forced entry threats or escapes is crucial

We construct all of our glazing materials to withstand sustained attacks without shattering, while maintaining optical clarity to allow for transactions and other day-to-day uses.

FORCEPROTECT glazing products can be implemented into new buildings or retrofitted to provide needed protection to existing structures.

Types of Break-Ins

Understanding The Need for Forced Entry Products

Nearly every type of building requires some level of protection against forced entry. Doors and windows are typically the first entry points, and Insulgard FORCEPROTECT glazing products fortify them to reduce the risk of home break-ins, store break-ins, and bank break-ins.

FORCEPROTECT glazing solutions are customized to meet your facility’s unique needs and the type of break-ins you’re more likely to encounter.

In a brute force attack, the would-be attacker attempts to ram, strike, or kick in a window with their body or a heavy object like an axe, crowbar, or sledgehammer. Insulgard FORCEPROTECT glazing is made to withstand different levels of force.

Attackers also use ballistics to demolish entry points and gain access to interior spaces. Insulgard bullet-resistant glazing is available in several levels of protection and materials, depending on your facility’s needs.

Certified Performance Testing

Standards & Certifications

Depending on the risk level of your facility, Insulgard provides an appropriately rated forced entry resistant glazing to fit your application. Different FORCEPROTECT glazing products meet different levels of forced entry testing, including ASTM F1233, ASTM F1915, WMFL and the late HP White TP-0500.03. These widely respected testing methods measure the ability of forced entry resistant glass to withstand threats such as:

  • Blunt force: Rigorous testing is conducted by inflicting sustained impacts from sledge hammers, 4 inch pipes, battering rams, ball peen hammers, and other blunt instruments.
  • Cutting instruments: Sharp tools such as fire axes and wood splitting mauls are used to test a glazing material’s ability to withstand cutting attacks.
  • Chemical deterioration: FORCEPROTECT windows also provide resistance to chemical agents such as gasoline and acetone.
  • Thermal stress: Our windows stand up to prolonged attacks from propane torches and other thermal instruments.

The product ratings of our FORCEPROTECT line take into account the type of attack, the techniques used in the attack, and the duration during which those techniques are employed. The highest levels of protection provide resistance against prolonged assaults involving hundreds of impacts.

Forced Entry Risk Assessment

How Much Forced Entry Resistance Do You Need?

The level of forced entry protection you need for your building will depend upon a thorough threat assessment and, in some situations, regulatory requirements.

A retail store may require a lower level of protection designed to protect against “smash and grab” thefts, while a government building may need protection against a coordinated assault using stronger instruments and more sophisticated techniques.

Our wide range of products and levels of protection allow us to equip buildings facing a variety of threats and levels of danger.  Our security experts can provide you with information and guidance at any stage of the building process, from the specification and design to the installation of your forced entry resistant glass and other Insulgard security products.

Secure Installation Guidelines

Installation Considerations

When installing forced entry-resistant glass, several key considerations must be taken into account to ensure effectiveness and longevity.

Frame compatibility is one such consideration, as the weight of force resistant glass may strain a conventional framing system. In addition to our glazing materials, Insulgard manufactures framing systems that are robust enough to reliably support secure windows.

You must also make sure the forced entry resistant glass is properly anchored. No matter how strong your glazing materials are, a criminal can bypass them if the windows are easily displaced or removed.

We can provide you with the guidance you need to properly install forced entry resistant glass and other security products, so that the structures you build benefit fully from them.
