In at-risk regions, government buildings like emergency operations centers, police and fire stations, city halls, courthouses, military bases, and infrastructure facilities require weather-resistant materials and hurricane/tornado safe rooms to ensure continuity of operations and the safety of occupants during severe storms. The International Building Code® from 2015 onward requires that all critical emergency operations in regions with wind speed zones of 250mph or higher have a storm shelter in compliance with ICC500.
