Secure Storm Shelter for Public Safety Hub
Project Overview
This new storm shelter in North Texas serves as a hub for public safety, bringing police, fire, EMS, and municipal operations together under one roof. Designed for extreme weather, the 77,000-square-foot facility provides wind- and impact-resistant protection to safeguard personnel and maintain critical operations when it matters most.
Challenge
The city required a centralized facility that could support essential public safety functions—including a 911 dispatch center, Emergency Operations Command Center, and municipal court—while withstanding severe weather events.
In addition to storm protection, the design needed to incorporate abundant natural light and maintain a welcoming, functional environment without compromising security. The solution also had to address ballistic threats, adding another layer of complexity to the performance requirements.
Solution
Insulgard delivered a fully integrated storm shelter system tailored to the project’s performance and design goals.
The facility was equipped with:
- TTH600 framing glazed with TG30 IG
- TTH350 doors glazed with TG30
These systems provide impact-resistant protection while preserving visibility and daylighting. In addition, all framing, glazing, and doors meet UL 752 Level 3 standards for ballistic resistance, enhancing overall building security.
